We were struck by a typhoon yesterday here in Manila among nearby cities and provinces, the worst in 42 years! We all thought that it's going to be OK, at least as far as I know, we just let typhoons come and go without it affecting our "busy" work life in the BIG city. We never cancel a day on the job just because there's typhoon. Our buildings could withstand them besides the occasional flood that happens on expected below sea level areas, the city goes on with it's life.

We thought that the rain will eventually stop by the afternoon in time when everyone from work gets home, but it didn't, the rain came from dawn yesterday till the morning of today, worst is rising above 12-ft. in some locations. People got stucked in traffic in raging flood, some in their balconies waving curtains and bedsheets for the rescuers to spot them, some climbed up their rooftop drenched in cold rain with no food and without their belongings, some helplessly looking for their relatives, for kids especially whom they left when they'd gone to work.

-----------------
My husband and I are safe and dry. We got no work on Saturdays and our apartment building is located at one of the highest points in the City though our address brings a lot of panic to our families in the province since Pasig City is one of those cities that's been badly hit, the city is mostly submerged in water but our location is one of the few spared. We thank God a lot, almost in tears! We were supposed to transfer to a bigger place and looked in one of those homes that were unfortunately submerged up to the second floor! Our would've been neighbors perched onto their rooftops awaiting rescue.

We had no electricity though, our cellphone batteries were running out, we were eating canned food, our small apartment is lit by just one candle ... and we find humor in that amidst the calamity, that our apartment is indeed tiny to realize that we could brighten the surroundings by just one candle. ^^ WE texted our friends and relatives, relayed numbers that could help people in need like the numbers for the RED CROSS and TV networks that went on patrol. My parents texted me that I have relatives in different location that were stranded in their homes and might need rescuing, of course I feel bad that I couldn't do anything but pray for their safety. Well, that's all what we are unless we're RED CROSS or the Marines, we cannot go out and save the day. Our mortality smacked us in the face.

-------------------
Everyone is equal.

No one is rich or poor, celebrity or ordinary ... a famous actress was being interviewed on top of her mansion, ridiculous! How could they? Why don't they just airlift her, she's lost plenty for sure. MY rich cousin, had all of her Ford SUVs underwater and god knows whatever things she had swimming away with the flood... doesn't matter anymore. This is the worst that has ever befallen them and their properties but, she didn't care. All of her family are safe and that's what matters.

I'd rather go live simple you know and be happy with life from now on. Although I never did live large, I think I'd better not wish for more than what I can carry up my roof! BE grateful that we survived... I know we did for a purpose.

Stay safe everyone.

Sassy - Just noticed you post on my side bar and rushed over to see if you and hubby are OK - thank God for that - you are one of my favorite people.
What a tragedy - it is so damaging to peoples lives and property. I feel so desperately sorry for them - all I can do is pray. God bless them and you ~ Eddie x
Thank you Renee, a prayer is the most powerful help.
xoxo
Hi my dear friend!
How are you? Fantastic post.
How's the work?
I just stay here do leave a kiss.
Eddie! -Yes, thanks so much we are safe, worry not! We shall be extending help to others, I'm sure you'd want us to, being able to survive is a blessing. We don't have money but at least voluntary work, right? I'm sure they need more hands to pack all those donation that comes in. My husband and I will do that.
Thanks for the prayers, we appreciate from you and Renee.
Love,
Sassy + Hubby

Thinking of you all. Stay safe.
Sassy the cover of our daily newspaper is calling for help in the Phillipines.
Love Renee xoxo
so glad you are safe. That is awful :( We had a flood in georgia but it does not compare to that at all!!! So happy you are safe.
This is much of a tragic with a number of people who have become casualties and still trapped. You are lucky, God is good. I pray that the situation will be better the soonest. :)
I came here from Renee's, my dearest friend. What can I say other than we tried to make a donation to the Red Cross and it is practically impossible to do it from here in the States. We are contacting our local Red Cross and see how to get something to your local chapter. You are absolutely right, things are just that, things. Health and friendship, life lived to its fullest will always be more valuable than all the riches the world could offer.
Praying for all, and hoping for a calmer tomorrow.
I hadn't heard about this, and am very sorry.
Dear Sassy,
We are watching and praying here in California.
So terrifying.
Keep safe.

Hi sis, thanks for the comment. I again contacted them this morning and thankfully my mom answered!^_^ She said that they have no electric power since the typhoon, the electric power just got back and they are not affected by flooding. But it's so sad to hear that some of the subdivisions and villages nearby are affected by the flooding.
take care.
I'm so sorry to hear about this tragedy. I will be praying for you and Manila. You did a great job posting about this. Glad to hear you are safe.
Hugs,
Bug
@Kinha, we are fine, one of the few who hadn't been affected at all, except that our hearts now are badly broken for the others who hadn't been as fortunate.'glad you could come by!
@Scarlet, Thank you for your prayers, we do believe that it's the best healer.
@Meryl, I'm soooooooo relieved that your mom is ok, It's so hard to be away and not have communication in times like this...hay! salamat sa Dios! iniiwasan ko na manood ng TV kasi super nkakaiyak tlga...ang weird pa kasi wlang traffic! Nalubog yung ibang mga sasakyan halos kalahati ng traffic dito sa way ko nbawas, medyo eerie lang na maaliwalas bigla after the bagyo. Thanks ulit for dropping by! kisses!!!!******
I love your new philosophy - do not have more than anything you can't carry up the roof. Take care. There will be a lot pf postdiluvian diseases.
@ Breeze, yes! We are so grateful to be alive, we cannot imagine if we had transferred to the bigger house that got flooded almost to the roof! I actually don't know what to do if something like that happened to me that's why I really feel so heart broken for those who were not as fortunate, we will do our best to help them out.
@Matthew, thanks so much. We have high hopes of recovering soon regardless of the properties damaged, LIFE is still the most valuable of all.
@The Perfect Palette, yes indeed such tragedy, all we can do now is pray and help out each other as best we can. Thank you for your thoughts. :)
@Joemill, so glad you're safe too! I was beginning to worry when I dropped by your blog and you haven't posted...well, that was a day after the storm, haha I think nobody was really online that time but me!!! Well, glad your safe pare! Thanks for your thoughts!

@ Snowbrush, thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate you dropping by. ^_^
@ Lori Ann, watching it in the news always make me cry, so I'm now limiting myself! ^^ and just just include them in my prayers. Thanks for dropping by!
@ BUG, Thank you so much, Prayer is the greatest healer, thanks for including us.
@ Ces, haha yes! this experience is very humbling.
@ Webberpa, yup! crazy weather and climate change! I bet this is one of the effects of global warming, we've never had this crazy flooding before though we had some but not this bad!!! =(
Pak Karamu visiting your blog
Sassy...thinking of you. Haven't heard from you in a while and very concerned. All of my love and hope for you safety and for all of your loved ones.

sana maging back to normal na ang lahat. happy weekend.
OMG, that looks so much worse than what we had in GA( we didn't get a typhoon, but it was a bed). Some places looks exactly like your place. You can't get from one city to another in some location. Hope it's getting better.
