child of the 80s.

If there's anyone who could probably attest to what the '80s is all about ... I'm probably waving my hands up in the air like crazy!!! me! me! me! YES me. I was born exactly when the '80s began ... that is in 1980 and boy I'll be so excited to tell you how it was back then. Though I was still very young and it was really my sister who was "Madonna" crazy, I have vivid recollection of things and stuff that people do and what was "hit and hip" just by being there ... young with a sponge-like brain easily absorbing whatever it can! haha

Well, If the thought of being able to buy PEPSI at 1.oo peso is ridiculous! Then you wouldn't wanna bet on how much my parents gave me for "snacks" or baon?! ... it's 2.00 pesos! I get to buy a hamburger with Pepsi, for 2.00 pesos! That is in 1987. I was in Grade 1. By the time I was in Grade 2, Pepsi price also increased at 2.00 pesos ... Yes, I maybe weird to account my life with regards to the price of Pepsi! haha but it's just sort of "amazing" to think that we too can tell these stories to our kids and they'd be like us when our parents used to tell us ... "oh, we only had 25 cents for baon" and have to walk to school to save the .5 cents fare so we could buy Pepsi! haha... you see how life is somehow equated with Pepsi? (^_^)

And that's not just what I have to tell you about ... I also remember our first TV! at about 8 years old, we had no TV yet. I only saw a big wooden box with sliding doors that had a what looks like an opaque mirror inside sitting at the corner of our house, my sister would tell me... that is was a broken TV set and told me how it works, though I never get to understand what it's like until one afternoon, a tricycle stopped by our bamboo fence and came my parents with a huge box. Oh we had to keep the arrival of this huge surprise a secret, as not to let the neighbors know we had TV! ... 'know why? because it might get stolen! That is how precious a 14"inch, black and white TV was, with a wooden casing and a knob that's supposed to change channel but ... there was only one channel back then so... it's no use to make 12 rounds on the knob to find just one TV channel that's actually nice and clear through the help of an antenna ... an antenna tied up to a pole on our roof with a long, flat wire that dangles through our window attached to the TV. haha...cute... I watched the Wonder Years, Night Rider, Miami Vice, Dynasty, That's Entertainment, Vilma (my moms favorite every Friday night), Murder She Wrote (also my moms fave!) ... ahhh... Santa Barbara in the afternoons at my nap times!!! But it didn't take long before our neighbors find out we had TV, that each night (before they got their own TV sets) Our neighbors would come by the house and watch TV with us, some by the porch, some leaning on the window sills, some squatted in our living room floor ... it's such a wonder those times ... hehe and this TV up until now, probably still works. We never had a problem with it until it got replaced by a 21" inch color TV and this replacement TV, 'mind you, is still the TV that we use at my parents house! ... still works so why replace it?! haha ... AND the TV is not the only appliance in our family that's been decades old but we still use (yup! 2009) haha ... we still use our first ever refrigerator ( G.E. brand, 1990) white with wooden handle and metal casing! haha I was only 10 years old when we got it! ... our ever comfy couch and living room set is also our very first ... and of course our Karaoke. Karaoke before is this free-standing, stereo that plays casette tapes ... the "equalizers" can be adjusted if you're using a "multiplex" tape that filters out the voice and you could sing along with the music on the microphone... still works! haha. We'd like to keep them for as long as they still work ... afterall, "vintage" is in! haha

Well...Those were the days ... they say... and probably now that I'm 28, I'm becoming more appreciative of the "old" times ... our generation was a unique one ... padded shoulders and all! ... it's part of history, everyone could probably tell the '80s apart from other years that's gone by and indeed! what a decade it was! 'Can't wait to share it with our future kids and wait for their shrugs! haha
